Resumo: The recent increase in television serial narrative has drawn attention to the production of prestigious shows adapted from well-known films. In addition to the questions of intertextual relations, these adaptations raise the question of authorship. From the case study of Fargo, a serial adaptation from showrunner Noah Hawley based on the movie from authors Joel and Ethan Coen, we propose a discussion on the discursive construction of authorship in television and film. Finally, we argue that the defense of authorship from television writers relates closely to the legitimacy of contemporary television.
