Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental.Atualmente a busca pela utilização de materiais e métodos mais sustentáveis na construção civil vem crescendo, principalmente pela percepção dos impactos que as técnicas tradicionais causam ao meio ambiente. Nesse sentido, determinar quais materiais são mais sustentáveis requer pesquisa e uma metodologia de análise cientificamente consolidada. A Avaliação de Ciclo de Vida (ACV) é uma metodologia que avalia aspectos e impactos durante toda vida do produto, começando na fabricação (berço) e terminando no descarte final (túmulo). O presente trabalho fez uma revisão bibliográfica de diferentes tipos de telhado e da metodologia de ACV, definiu os termos utilizados e descreveu o sistema construtivo de telhados. Em seguida se fez a ACV de quatro alternativas de telhados para uma residência, entre eles, tradicionais e sustentáveis. A ACV foi realizada no software SimaPro, pelo método ReCiPe, analisando sete categorias de impacto. Executou-se uma análise de sensibilidade afim de verificar a influência do transporte nos impactos potenciais. Os resultados apontaram o telhado de cerâmica como o mais impactante em seis, das sete categorias, enquanto o telhado de Tetra Pak apresentou os menores impactos em seis das sete categorias. Assim, pode-se concluir que os telhados sustentáveis, pela análise de ACV realizada, apresentaram menores impactos potenciais.The interest for using more sustainable materials and methods in civil construction has been growing, mainly due to the perception of the impacts that traditional techniques cause to the environment. For this reason, determining which materials are more sustainable requires research and a scientifically consolidated analysis methodology. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a methodology that evaluates aspects and impacts during the entire life of the product, from the manufacture (cradle) until the final disposal (grave). The present study shows a literature review about different types of roofs, a description about the LCA methodology, proposed the terms used and described the roof construction system. Furthermore, a life cycle assessment of four roofing alternatives for a residence was carried, comparing the traditional and sustainable method. The LCA was performed in the SimaPro software, using the ReCiPe method, analyzing seven impact categories. A sensitivity analysis was carried to verify the influence of transportation on potential impacts. The results showed that the ceramic-based roof had the highest impact in six of the seven categories, while the Tetra Pak-based roof had the lowest impact in six of the seven categories.
