Resumo: This study aims to reflect on the notion of life and sacredness, in the second narrative of the novel Um homem é muito pouco (2010), by the Maranhão writer Ronaldo Costa Fernandes. In it, we verify how the sacrum opens possibilities to think the framing of the body (the grain) based on the tragic condition of the being (the straw). Reflecting on the sacred, considered here only as a rhetorical artifice of life framing, we depart from the notion of citizenship - a term viewed as a strategy of control over the body. So, from this perspective, we approach the categories sacrum and profanation, in order to show how the characters can rebel against the inebriation of power, which makes them easily killable subjects. The theoretical iscourses of Giorgio Agamben in Homo Sacer: sovereign power and naked life (2010) and the use of bodies (2017) offer the framework for the approach.
