Resumo: This article compared the profile of handball junior athletes from Brazil and Sweden, aiming to understand the different contexts of its practice. For this, we applied a questionnaire with closed questions for the Junior category athletes of the Brazilian and Swedish team, during 2003 Men’s Junior World Handball Championship. Our results pointed out a difference between the sports career development of athletes of these two selections, in particular, the age of initiation and the beginning of federative competition, and there was difference also in salary gains. These elements indicate a better talent development of handball in Sweden than in Brazil, in the analyzed period.

Para tanto, se aplicó un cuestionario con cuestiones cerradas para los atletas durante el campeonato Mundial Junior de Balonmano de 2003. Nuestros resultados indicaran una diferencia en la formación de estos deportistas, considerando el primer contacto del balonmano y la constitución del vínculo federativo, y la existencia de remuneración entre los deportistas. Estos elementos indican un mejor desarrollo del talento deportivo en Suecia que en Brasil en el período estudiado.Este artigo objetivou comparar o perfil dos atletas juniores do handebol de seleções masculinas do Brasil e da Suécia, buscando compreender os diferentes contextos da modalidade. Para tanto, aplicamos um questionário com questões fechadas para os atletas da categoria Junior da seleção brasileira e sueca, durante o Mundial Junior de Handebol. Nossos resultados indicaram uma diferença na formação destes atletas, considerando o primeiro contato do handebol e a constituição do vínculo federativo, e na existência de remuneração entre atletas.
