Resumo: This dissertation presents a discussion of multicultural epistemology, its implications, criticisms and possible consequences for a research and for our conceptions about morality. One author who became central to our work is Charles Taylor, not only for his specific contribution to multiculturalism, but also for his constant attack on the modern legacy that guides much of the thinking in contemporary philosophy. We examine disputes around the assertion that various factors are inherent in the culture and identity of individuals or groups with close ties to a way in which knowledge is produced and validated in different contexts. The critique of the generic subject's conception that has capacities (In a neutral way) to think of himself and the world around him, is the point that unites the epistemological approach of multiculturalists to Taylor's thinking within our work. However, there are many points of disagreement. The sociological aspect and the postmodern tendency of the production of some multiculturalists are characteristics in conflict with Taylor‘s conception of self and morality. We will also see that detractors of multicultural epistemology concentrate their arguments on a traditional ground of the study of knowledge - in which concepts such as "objectivity", "clarity", "rationality", for example, are not problematic. But the questions about the distinction between norm and value in this sense are not a clear point as is supposed. Undoubtedly, there are values within the practices and conceptions consolidated by modernity, as we will see throughout this work. Questions involving cultural context and the examination of the epistemological status of knowledge are in a rather thorny terrain, but we will weave our investigation resorting in several points to the study of Taylor‘s work. Nevertheless, we will also draw a division between multicultural epistemology and monocultural epistemology in order to throw some hypotheses about possible ways of understanding the moral consequences of openness to the "postulates" of multicultural epistemology.

Um autor que se tornou central em nosso trabalho é Charles Taylor, não só devido a sua contribuição específica para o multiculturalismo, mas também por seu constante ataque ao legado moderno que orienta grande parte das reflexões na filosofia contemporânea. Examinamos as disputas em torno da afirmação de que os diversos fatores inerentes à cultura e a identidade de indivíduos ou grupos possuem estreito vínculo com a maneira como os conhecimentos são produzidos e validados em diferentes contextos. A crítica à concepção de um sujeito genérico dispondo de capacidades cognitivas para (de um modo neutro) pensar a si mesmo e o mundo a sua volta, é o ponto que une a abordagem epistemológica dos multiculturalistas ao pensamento de Taylor dentro de nosso trabalho. Entretanto, aí existem muitos pontos de discordância. O aspecto sociológico e a tendência pós-moderna da produção de alguns multiculturalistas são características em atrito com a concepção de self e de moralidade em Taylor. Veremos também que os detratores da epistemologia multicultural concentram seus argumentos sobre uma base tradicional do estudo sobre o conhecimento – na qual conceitos como "objetividade", "clareza", "racionalidade", por exemplo, não são problemáticos. Mas as questões em torno da distinção entre norma e valor, nesse sentido, não constituem um ponto tão claro como se supõe. Sem dúvida, existem valores dentro das práticas e concepções consolidadas pela modernidade, como veremos ao longo deste trabalho. Questões envolvendo contexto cultural e o exame do status epistemológicos do conhecimento estão em um terreno bastante espinhoso, mas vamos tecer nossa investigação recorrendo em diversos pontos ao estudo das obras de Taylor. Porém, também vamos traçar uma divisão entre epistemologia multicultural e epistemologia monocultural a fim lançarmos algumas hipóteses sobre possíveis modos de compreender as consequências morais de uma abertura aos "postulados" da epistemologia multicultural.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESporUniversidade Federal de Santa MariaCentro de Ciências Sociais e HumanasPrograma de Pós-Graduação em FilosofiaUFSMBrasilFilosofiaAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessEpistemologia multiculturalIdentidadeEpistemologiaMoralidadeMulticultural epistemologyIdentityEpistemologyMoralityCNPQ::CIENCIAS HUMANAS::FILOSOFIAAs consequências morais da epistemologia multiculturalThe moral consequences of multicultural epistemologyinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisKrassuski, Jair Antôniohttp://lattes.cnpq.br/5559214547314711Sattler, Janynehttp://lattes.cnpq.br/9316851338632064Nascimento, Janaína Xavier dohttp://lattes.cnpq.br/0500517652436194http://lattes.cnpq.br/2317908535831162Martini, Willian70010000000460076bf95f8-57bd-4d7e-9bfd-18637d523e01b2ea8c2f-0479-4a1c-aeeb-421afe99be57a80ee128-8bda-4ee7-b18f-443b537ebdc05d43ea46-6dfe-4cf9-a7e3-ba9de09cd194reponame:Manancial - Repositório Digital da UFSMinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMCC-LICENSElicense_rdflicense_rdfapplication/rdf+xml;
