Resumo: Garlic have been shown to have anthelmintic activity against common intestinal parasites, but research of the effectiveness of unconventional therapeutic methods is rare. The objective of this research was to evaluate the anthelmintic activity of garlic in ruminants. Four experiments were conducted, two with sheep and two with cattle. In the experiment 1 crossedbred Suffolk sheep with 48 kg body weight were used to the housing conditions allocated in three groups: one was a negative control; as second group was treated with garlic bulb (120g/100kg body weight), administered at regular intervals (1; 7; 14 and 21 day or 1 and 14 day). The same was made on the third group(120g/100kg body weight) but treated with garlic aqueous extract. Repeated the experiment using lambs of the same genetic group with 22 kg body weight. In the experiment 2 ewes and lambs were used to the pasture conditions allocated in two groups, negative control and treated with garlic aqueous extract. Other two experiments were conducted with cattle. In the experiment 1 crossed-breed steers were used to the pasture conditions allocated in three groups: one was the negative control; the second group was treated with garlic bulb (90 or 120g/100kg body weight), administered at regular intervals (days 1; 7; 14 and 21 or 1 and 14); the same was made on the third group but treated with garlic aqueous extract. In the experiment 2, Holstein calves were used to the pasture conditions treated with garlic and garlic aqueous extract (60g/100kg body weight). For all experiments, fecal samples were collected day 0; 7; 14; 21 and 28. The garlic treatments were effective in the reduction of parasite infection in sheep and young cattle.

Assim, esta pesquisa foi conduzida com o objetivo de avaliar a atividade antihelmíntica do alho em ruminantes. Foram conduzidos quatro experimentos, dois com ovinos e dois com bovinos. No primeiro experimento foram utilizadas ovelhas mestiças com predominância da raça Suffolk, com peso médio de 48kg manejadas em confinamento e alocadas em três grupos: grupo controle negativo, outro grupo tratado com alho (120g/100kg de peso corporal), administrado em intervalos regulares (1; 7; 14 e 21 dias ou 1 e 14 dias). O mesmo foi realizado com o terceiro grupo, tratado com 120g de alho/100 kg de peso corporal na forma de extrato aquoso. Repetiu-se a experimentação utilizando cordeiros do mesmo grupo genético com peso médio de 22kg. No segundo experimento, foram utilizados ovelhas e cordeiros, manejados em pastagens, divididos em dois grupos, controle negativo e outro tratado com extrato aquoso de alho (120g/100kg de peso corporal). Outras duas pesquisas foram realizadas com bovinos jovens. No primeiro experimento foram utilizados novilhos manejados em pastagem, divididos em três grupos: o primeiro foi o controle negativo; o segundo foi tratado com alho in natura (90 ou 120g/100kg de peso corporal) administrado em intervalos regulares (1º; 7º; 14º e 21º dia ou 1º e 14º); o mesmo foi feito no terceiro grupo tratado com extrato aquoso de alho. No segundo experimento foram utilizadas terneiras da raça Holandesa que foram tratadas com alho in natura ou extrato aquoso (60g/100 de peso corporal). Amostras de fezes para todos os experimentos foram coletadas nos dias 0; 7; 14; 21 e 28. Os tratamentos com alho foram efetivos na redução de infecção parasitária em ovinos e bovinos jovens.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESporUniversidade Federal de Santa MariaCentro de Ciências RuraisPrograma de Pós-Graduação em ZootecniaUFSMBrasilZootecniaAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internationalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessAllium sativumEndoparasitasFitoterapiaVerminoseEndoparasitesPhitotherapyWormsCNPQ::CIENCIAS AGRARIAS::ZOOTECNIAEficácia do alho como anti-helmíntico em ovinos e bovinosEfficacy of garlic as anthelmintic in sheep and cattleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/doctoralThesisOlivo, Clair Jorgehttp://lattes.cnpq.br/7352405107578701Chagas, Ana Carolina de SouzaVeríssimo, Cecília JoséPires, Cleber CassolAgnolin, Carlos Albertohttp://lattes.cnpq.br/5357426482274072Santos, Juliano Costa dos500400000002600600600600600ff2c8b95-f964-4e2e-a9d0-a7ca492ea47b7fdd0d22-18e1-4e85-8e09-4bbc7b06baae4a0a4a12-baba-49f3-8b08-7354324dff05486f6a4e-2fa5-4e90-82ad-96c9189207d42a331203-f062-4276-9313-5ebf2d696c77aa38549c-183e-4ba9-95b6-46ed250c0481reponame:Manancial - Repositório Digital da UFSMinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMORIGINALTES_PPGZOOTECNIA_2015_SANTOS_JULIANO.pdfTES_PPGZOOTECNIA_2015_SANTOS_JULIANO.pdfTeseapplication/pdf1037302http://repositorio.ufsm.br/bitstream/1/21613/1/TES_PPGZOOTECNIA_2015_SANTOS_JULIANO.pdf37307449c56e085a68a01696a4196daaMD51CC-LICENSElicense_rdflicense_rdfapplication/rdf+xml;
