Resumo: The aim of this research was to identify the relation among the family needs, the social support, the family environment resources and sociodemographic data of families of children with physical disabilities, Down syndrome and autism. The 60 participants of the research were mothers of children with physical disabilities, Down syndrome and autism, aged from 0 to 6 years old. The data collection happened at the mother’s homes, a public university, specialized institutions and a municipal school located in middle sized cities in São Paulo State. The instruments used for the data collection were: Critério Brasil questionnaires, Family Needs questionnaires, Social Support questionnaires and Family Environment Resources inventory. About the results, correlations were identified among many variables, such as: (a) the total needs presented negative correlation with the right time for kids to do their lessons; (b) the support and functioning needs of family life showed negative correlation with the number of people who provide support and (c) the need for support correlated negatively with socioeconomic levels and children’s education levels. The amount of people who provide support showed positive correlation with the frequency that the children have lunch and do their lessons at the right time, as well as the meetings at the weekends. It is concluded that the study identified important correlations, mainly concerning vulnerable groups. It also pointed out that sociodemographic characteristics are important when implementing and promoting interventions and programs that support families of children with physical disabilities, Down syndrome and autism.
