Resumo: This work aims to investigate the impacts of domestication on literary translation, starting from the analysis of the novel Gabriela, cravo e canela ([1958] 2006), by Jorge Amado into the English language, following Venuti's (1995; 2008) concepts of Foreignization and Domestication, as well as the theoretical support of studies that contribute to the discussion on translation ethics. Our corpus of study is parallel, composed of cultural markers from the work Gabriela, cravo e canela ([1958] 2006) and its translation, Gabriela, clove and cinnamon ([1962] 1988). The results of the analysis demonstrated a domesticating tendency in the translation of cultural markers and, consequently, the erasure of Bahian culture for the foreign reader, guided by the objective of translating Jorge Amado's novel as a best-seller in the United States.

O nosso corpus de estudo é paralelo, composto por marcadores culturais da obra Gabriela, cravo e canela ([1958] 2006) e sua tradução Gabriela, clove and cinnamon ([1962] 1988).
