Resumo: Childhood as a theme is present in narratives of the Portuguese literary movement known as Neorealism, in which it plays an important role. After an exposition of the representation of childhood in the Portuguese Literature of the first half of the 20th century, the path of two characters — both of them are children — of neorealist short stories of the 1940s is analysed. The corpus is composed by «O Pàstiure», by Soeiro Pereira Gomes; and «O Primeiro Camarada que Ficou pelo Caminho», by Manuel da Fonseca.
