Resumo: In this work we will deal the way the correspondence between literature and visual arts was put into practice over time. Within this Simonides of Coeus discussion appears from recorded that "painting is poetry changes and poetry is speaking painting." Voltaremo us, still, the Latin poet Horace and his famous expression Ut pictura poiesis, which, in a way, was taken over the centuries as the term for all comparative tradition of the arts. For construction of our theoretical background, we refer to Praz (1982), Horace (2005), Gonçalves (1994 and 1997), Mello (2004), Pound (2006), among others.

Dentro dessa discussão Simônides de Céos aparece a partir do registrado de que “a pintura é poesia muda e a poesia é pintura falante”. Voltar-nos-emos, ainda, ao poeta latino Horácio e sua famosa expressão Ut pictura poiesis, que, de certa forma, foi tomado ao longo dos séculos como o termo para designar toda uma tradição comparativa entre as artes.
