Resumo: The objective of this study is to analyze a project-based teaching and learning proposal and to investigate the contributions of this proposal to health education in elementary education. With methodological support guided by action research, it includes a set of actions developed by researchers in collaboration with an interior school in Rio Grande do Sul. After a formative process that included aspects of health at school, chronic non-communicable diseases, healthy eating and socio-emotional aspects of teaching practice, four teachers planned an interdisciplinary teaching-learning project developed with 6th and 7th grade students, during the school year. For monitoring the actions, semi-structured questionnaires, interviews, field diary, photographic records and participant observation were used. The results demonstrate that the project was developed from collective discussions, considering the reality and specificity of the school context. The actions were idealized and developed in an interdisciplinary way and provided pedagogical health practices planned and articulated to the curriculum, also emphasizing the need for family support in the process for construction of healthier attitudes and environments. In addition, the potential of school-university collaborative work in promoting improvements in the teaching-learning process was highlighted.
