Resumo: The purpose of this article is to explore a certain stratum – a Hellenic-inspired stratum – of the semantic field of the concept of now-time (Jetztzeit), formulated by Walter Benjamin as a central category of his conception of history. Based on a historical-cultural and iconological commentary on an allegory of History, carved in wood by Dominikus Hermenegild Herberger, in the mid-18th century, the meaning of the multifaceted relationship between the personifications of history and time there represented is reflected upon. Relationship through which, analogically, we aim to illuminate the Benjaminian idea of time as a kairological concept of an essential and radically political present.

A partir de um comentário histórico-cultural e iconológico a uma alegoria da História, esculpida em madeira por Dominikus Hermenegild Herberger, em meados do século XVIII, pensa-se o sentido da polifacetada relação entre as personificações da história e do tempo ali representadas.
