Resumo: The utilization of rainwater is a technology with the potential to alleviate the strain on public water supply sources, thereby minimizing issues related to urban water demand. In this context, this paper aims to examine the economic feasibility and potential of implementing a rainwater harvesting system in social housing programs in Igarassu, Pernambuco. The software Neptune 4.0 was utilized to simulate rainwater harvesting assess its economic viability, as it could serve as an alternative to a portion of the water demand sourced from the public water supply, specifically for non-potable purposes. The findings indicate a notable and feasible reduction in potable water consumption, resulting in considerable savings on the water bill over time. The average annual potential for rainwater utilization for non-potable purposes can range from 5% to 9%, depending on the chosen reservoir for storage and the per capita water demand considered. Consequently, the costs associated with implementing the rainwater harvesting system for residential houses in Igarassu were found to be significant, with an approximate payback period of 6 to 7 years.
