QUATERNARY PALEOCLIMATIC MODELS AND LANDFORMS: GEOMORPHOLOGICAL IMPLICATIONS IN THE CONTINENTAL REGION OF BAHIA STATE

Resumo: Paleoclimatic models developed in the last two decades have collaborated to elucidate issues related to variations in humidity conditions during the Quaternary in Bahia State, northeast Brazil. Also, investigations about past geomorphological dynamics contributed to deeper discussions concerning this theme. In this article, we evaluate the contribution of previous research carried out in the continental area of Bahia State to understand the regional morphodynamics driven by humid and dry climatic conditions during the Quaternary. We identify one known interval in the Pleistocene and two intervals in the Holocene. It was possible to understand the relationship between wet and dry climatic phases and the landforms responses to different humidity conditions. On the other hand, we identified two gaps in the Pleistocene and two gaps in the Holocene. These gaps need future investigations to complement the information about the researched area.

These gaps need future investigations to complement the information about the researched area.Em setores específicos da Bahia, modelos paleoclimáticos desenvolvidos nas duas últimas décadas contribuíram para elucidar questões relacionadas às variações nas condições de umidade durante o Quaternário. Da mesma forma, dinâmicas geomorfológicas pretéritas, investigadas em diferentes contextos do estado, corroboraram para o avanço nas discussões sobre a evolução do relevo, apontadas de maneira genérica na literatura clássica. Nesse artigo, objetivou-se avaliar a contribuição de pesquisas desenvolvidas no setor continental baiano, no sentido de compreender a morfogênese regional quaternária, no contexto dos grandes compartimentos do relevo. A sistematização e espacialização dos proxies utilizados em literaturas anteriores contribuíram para a identificação de três períodos conhecidos na escala do Quaternário, que demonstraram a relação entre períodos úmidos/secos e as respostas do relevo às diferentes condições de umidade.
