Resumo: O objetivo deste estudo foi quantificar a performance mastigatória em adultos portadores de prótese total removível maxilar insatisfatória e arco classe I de Kennedy mandibular sem prótese e após a confecção de novas próteses. Cinco adultos do sexo feminino, participaram deste estudo. O alimento artificial Optocal foi fornecido em porções de 17 cubos (com lados de 5,6 mm). A trituração dos alimentos foi realizada com 20 e 40 ciclos mastigatórios. Os fragmentos de Optocal foram colocados numa coluna de oito peneiras, com aberturas variando de 5,6mm a 0,5mm. A quantidade de alimento artificial retido em cada peneira foi mensurada. Os dados da performance mastigatória foram submetidos a análise de normalidade, sendo a distribuição não normal utilizou-se o teste de Wilcoxon para comparação dos dados.
