Anxiety is a theme that has attracted the attention of researchers; especially, excessive levels of it, cause personal and social problems, more and more common nowadays. Seeking to know the anxiety level of students, technicians and professors at a federal university in southern Brazil, and to relate it to some personal and professional characteristics, a survey was carried out with the participation of 365 involved. Through descriptive statistics, regression, Anova and Test-t, it was shown that students are more anxious than technicians and teachers. In addition, it was found that younger students have more anxiety, and students have them at a higher level. The results suggest that anxiety is related to employability; since younger students generally do not have a more developed professional position, and that it is related to the hormonal characteristic, since female students have it more intensely. In view of the fact that anxiety interferes with personal life and academic performance, it is suggested that universities seek to pay more attention to this topic, since anxious students can corroborate with unwanted situations.
