A técnica de RAPD, baseada na amplificação de segmentos genômicos múltiplos ao acaso, a partir de primers arbitrários, tem sido muito utilizada por possibilitar a caracterização de populações e a detecção de polimorfismos genéticos. Neste trabalho, objetivou-se estimar a diversidade genética entre 10 populações de C. atriceps (Uberlândia, uberaba, Patos de Minas, Paracatu, Franca, São José do Rio Preto, Itumbiara, Rio Verde, Porangatu e Rio de Janeiro), por uso de marcadores RAPD, usando Atta sexdens como outgroup. Os 13 primers utilizados produziram 105 bandas informativas, das quais 98 evidenciaram polimorfismos (93,3%). A distância genética por Porcentagem de Desacordo e UPGMA dividiu a popoulação de C. Atriceps em dois grupos ao nível de 40% de distância genética (grupo 1: Uberlândia, Paracatu, Patos de Minas, Franca, Rio de Janeiro e Porangatu; grupo 2: demais amostras). Atta sexdens divergiu em 57% das amostras de C. atriceps.
