Um exemplo brasileiro é o programa Bolsa Verde, instrumento político-econômico do Estado de Minas Gerais, que possibilita o reconhecimento dos produtores rurais pelos serviços ecossistêmicos prestados em suas propriedades. Neste contexto, o objetivo deste estudo é realizar um breve histórico e analisar a implementação de programas de PSA no estado de Minas Gerais a partir de duas iniciativas: o programa Bolsa Verde e o programa Agente Ambiental. Este último vem sendo desenvolvido pelo Instituto Xopotó na Bacia Hidrográfica do Rio Xopotó – MG, em resposta às diretrizes estabelecidas pelo programa Bolsa Verde. Percebe-se como peças fundamentais para o sucesso dos sistemas de PSA, a integração dos diversos atores envolvidos para garantir a assistência técnica, a acessibilidade à informação e a durabilidade dos contratos, conciliando a produção agrícola com a proteção ambiental e possibilitando a construção de uma nova relação de sustentabilidade entre os produtores rurais e o meio ambiente. Entretanto, os atuais desafios dos programas de PSA em Minas Gerais indicam que uma boa política não é suficiente para o sucesso do programa, é necessário um arranjo institucional eficiente, mecanismos de financiamento duradouros e execução participativa, envolvendo os principais atores destes processos.Different initiatives of Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) are already happening in Brazil and around the world. In Brazil, one of them is the “Green Grant” Program (Bolsa Verde). This program is a political and economic instrument practiced in the state of Minas Gerais. It allows, through annual remuneration, the recognition of farmers who provide ecosystem services in their properties. In this context, this article aims at performing a brief history and analysis of the implementation of PES programs in Minas Gerais from two initiatives: the Green Grant program and the Environmental Agent program. The latter is being developed in response to the guidelines established by the Green Grant program. It is possible to assert that for the success of PES systems it is important to integrate different actors to ensure technical assistance, information access and contracts durability. PES systems tend to combine agricultural production with environmental protection and can help farmers to build a new relation with environmental sustainability. However, the current challenges of PES programs in Minas Gerais indicate that good policy is not sufficient for the program to be successful.
