Resumo: In the present work it was studied the influence of age and weight at weaning on performance up to forty two days old piglets. A total of 288 animals (C22×AG412, PIC (R)) were grouped into 36 experimental units. The suspended slatted floor of nursery facility was located on a far row to finishing farm with an all-in-all-out system. The experiments were delineated as a random factorial distribution (3 weaning ages -12, 15, 18 days; 3 weight at weaning- light, medium, heavy) with 4 repetitions and using 2 males and 2 females animals. The 8 animals of each experimental unit were weighted at 21, 28 and 42 days of age and their feed intake determined. The analyses of the results indicated that age at weaning was not a variable source of the mean weight at 42 days of age (P> 0.05) and at this age earlier weaning resulted in higher reduction of weight in 3 categories. The age and the weight at weaning had a significant effect on medium weight at 42 days old (P< 0.05). Weaned piglets at 15 days (1:1.3152 kg) had a better feed gain than 18 days old (1:1.4271 kg) and the 12 days old weaned (1:1.3641 kg) had a feed gain statistically equal to the 15 and 18 days old weaned piglets. The light weaned animals (1:1.3061 kg) had a better feed conversion than the heavy piglets (1:1.4250 kg) but the medium (1:1.3641 kg) were statistically similar to the light and heavy ones. No diarrhea was observed on piglets and the belly-nosing behavior were observed only immediately after weaning without any correlation with age or weight at weaning. In the present conditions, the weaning realized with 15 days old was the most practicable in relation of weight gain, feed conversion and costs (R$/kg of piglet produced at 42 days old).
