Resumo: Exogenous factors including heavy metals, radiation, environmental pollution, and pesticides can cause oxidative stress. Exposure to toxicants induces tissue bioacumulation and damage and has been associated with declines in bat populations. The aim of this study was to determine the occurrence of oxidative stress after a chronic exposure to commercial concentrations of the insecticide endosulfan in the tissue of the fruit bat Artibeus lituratus. Twenty-one male bats were collected in forest fragments in Viçosa, MG, Brazil, and kept in cages (3 × 3 × 2 m) at the Federal University of Viçosa. Papaya fruits were immersed in endosulfan solution (0.00 g/L, 1.05 g/L, 2.1 g/L) with adhesive spreader (0.015 g/L) and offered to the animals (n = 7 per treatment) for 35 days. . After treatment were measured products of oxidative stress and antioxidant enzymes. The activity of the antioxidant enzymes catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione S-transferase (GST), as well as total glutathione concentration and the products of oxidative stress - lipid peroxidation and protein carbonyls, were determined in the bats liver. In the brain and kidney were determined the activity of the antioxidant enzymes CAT, SOD, GST, as well as the product of oxidative stress - lipid peroxidation, and in the testes were evaluated SOD and CAT. The liver showed a decrease in SOD, CAT and GST increased in animals that received 2.01 g / L, compared to the control group. Glutathione did not differ between treatments, as well as lipid peroxidation and protein carbonyls. CAT kidney also showed decline in all treatments and SOD has declined only in animals treated with 1.05 g/L. In brain activity, CAT increased and SOD decreased in the treatment End 1.05 g/L. Both in brain as kidney treated animals showed no changes in lipid peroxidation. Activity SOD and CAT testes were similar. The results indicate that the chronic exposure to endosulfan induced oxidative stress in the liver of A. lituratus. This result indicates that these animals are vulnerable to exposure to commercial dose of the insecticide Endosulfan, and antioxidant enzymes can be used as biomarkers of toxicity in environmental bats.

No fígado foi avaliada a peroxidação lipídica, proteínas carboniladas e a Glutationa total, e as enzimas antioxidantes: Catalase (CAT), Superóxido dismutase (SOD) e Glutationa S- transferase (GST).
