Resumo: The predator Podisus nigrispinus (Dallas, 1851) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) is an important biological control agent in the soybean culture and it has been reared in the laboratory with plant besides prey what improves its biological and reproductive characteristics. This work aimed to evaluate effects of compounds kidnapped from soybean plants by the natural prey Anticarsia gemmatalis Hübner, 1818 (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) compared to alternative one Tenebrio molitor Linnaeus, 1758 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) on reproductive characteristics and population growth of P. nigrispinus. Two independent researches were developed; the first with plant and the second without it. In the first, Podisus nigrispinus was reared on soybean plants of the cultivar UFV16 with caterpillars of A. gemmatalis reared with artificial diet (T1); caterpillars of A. gemmatalis reared on soybean leaves of the cultivar UFV 16 (T2); T. molitor pupae (T3) or pupae of A. gemmatalis reared with soybean leaves (T4). In the second, P. nigrispinus, without plant, received caterpillars of A. gemmatalis reared with artificial diet (T1); caterpillars of A. gemmatalis reared with soybean leaves of the cultivar UFV16 (T2) or T. molitor pupae (T3). In the first research, P. nigrispinus presented higher values for duration of the nymph stage in the T2; nymph survival in the T1, T2 and T3; weight of nymphs of fifth instar and of those of males and females; numbers of eggs and nymphs per female and that of egg masses in the T3; lower number of eggs per egg mass in the T2 and longest longevity of females in the T2 and T3. The liquid reproductive rate (Ro) and the duration of a generation (DG) were lower in the T1. The period for this predator to duplicate its population (TD) and the finite (?) and infinitesimal (rm) reasons of population increase were similar. In the second research, P. nigrispinus had longer duration of the nymph stage in the T1; higher weight of the fifth instar nymphs and of males and females; larger number of eggs and nymphs per female and that of egg masses and eggs per egg mass and longest longevity in the T3. The liquid reproductive rate of P. nigrispinus (Ro) was higher in the T3; the duration of a generation (DG) was shorter in the T1 and T2; the period for this predator to double its population in number of individuals (TD) was shorter in the T3 and T1 and the finite (?) and infinitesimal (rm) reasons of population increase were higher in the T3 and T1. In both researches, P. nigrispinus had better reproductive parameters with T. molitor pupae, probably, due to better nutritional qualities of this prey and the effect of soybean plants in the predator in the second research. Podisus nigrispinus can be used in biological control programs of A. gemmatalis with adequate population growth.

Podisus nigrispinus can be used in biological control programs of A. gemmatalis with adequate population growth.O predador Podisus nigrispinus (DALLAS, 1851) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) é um agente importante de controle biológico no agroecossistema de soja.
