Resumo: The goal of this article is to present the dissertation research which studies the Olympian Zeus’ temples (Olympieion) built during the sixth and fifth centuries B.C. The intention is to understand how Olympia was responsible for the origin and dissemination of Olympian Zeus´cult through the Greek world. From the poleis survey that consecrated these temples to the deity and by the mapping of the cult in association to textual informations we will discuss the Olympios epiteth and the name Olympieion, the spacial configuration of the Olympian Zeus sanctuaries and the relationship of the cult and the tyranny.

A intenção é compreender em que medida Olímpia foi responsável pela origem e difusão do culto de Zeus Olímpico no restante do mundo grego. A partir do levantamento das póleis que consagram estes templos à divindade, do mapeamento do culto em associação às informações textuais discutiremos a utilização do epíteto Olympios e do nome Olympiéion, a configuração espacial dos santuários de Zeus Olímpico e a relação do culto com o governo tirânico.Nosso objetivo é apresentar a pesquisa de mestrado em andamento que estuda os templos de Zeus Olímpico (Olimpiéion) construídos entre os séculos VI e V a.C.
