CARETAKING BEHAVIOR AMONG CHILDREN: A REVIEW

Resumo: The purpose of this paper was to review literature referringto caretaking behavior among children, in order to evaluate the availabledata, and to suggest productive directions for future research on this theme.The review looked for evidences on the occurrence of caretaking behavioramong children, its relations with age and sex of the subjects, variationsin cultural contexts, bblogical bases and effects on development.The discussion focuses on the question of categorization, which isbrought out by the diversity of categories found in the literature. It isconcluded that the study of caretaking behaviour lacks a descriptive approach,from which an adequate system of categories could be derived.

A análise dos estudos revistos visou identificar evidências sobre a ocorrência do comportamento de cuidado entre crianças, relações com idade e sexo dos sujeitos, variações e contextos culturais, bases biológicas e efeitos sobre o desenvolvimento.
