Resumo: The female characters in Brazilian literature for children and youth are analysed considering gender, race, andgeneration hierarchies supporting, and supported by, the stereotypes of these characters. The stereotypes change according tonew gender, race, and age links. As these social links become visible, the female characters are presented in different socialpositions where they could not be in the past. The conclusions point to an interaction in the act of writing for children, in whichthe writer is able to transform her/his work through symbolic changes in female characters

Os estereótipos mudam à medida que novas articulações de gênero, raça e idade vão se tornando visíveis na sociedade; as personagens femininas são apresentadas em posições sociais diferentes, nas quais não poderiam estar no passado.
