Resumo: This article aims to investigate the presence of the fantastic in the short story “Embargo”, by José Saramago, originally published in 1978, in the book Objecto nearly, in a comparative proposal with the short story “Caminhões”, by Stephen King, present in the work Night Shadows, same year. To do so, at first, the aspects that underlie the fantastic genre in literature are characterized. Then, the characteristics of fantastic literature are identified in the short stories that make up the corpus of analysis of the present study to, finally, establish possible interlocutions between both narratives.

Para tanto, em um primeiro momento, caracterizam-se os aspectos que fundamentam o gênero fantástico na literatura.
