The female representation, in the literature, is recurrent, being a source of debates among scholars about such representation. In cordel literature, the female figure is also highlighted. The stories of the genre cover a variety of themes, among which the female figure is focused on assuming different faces: sometimes naive, fragile, submissive, sometimes unfaithful, cynical and malicious. In this way, we aim to observe how the female figure is represented in the booklet Casamento e Divórcio da Lagartixa, by Leandro Gomes de Barros. The research is qualitative and bibliographic in nature. The sources for the study are composed of authors who discuss the approach to the cordel text in the classroom, such as Marinho and Pinheiro (2012), Pinheiro (2013, 2018, 2020), Abreu (1999), Bradesco-Goudemand (1982) and Curran (1973). And for the discussion about the female figure, we turned to authors such as Zolin (2009), Del Priore (2004), and Perrot (2007). Given the above, we hope that this study will contribute to the criticism of the work of Leandro Gomes de Barros, by discussing the representation of the female figure as a possibility of meaning offered by this poetic narrative.
