This paper seeks to understand how the interjections "nossa", "valha" and "vixe" are used on the WhatsApp platform. Therefore, we set the following objectives: (i) to understand the use of these forms in WhatsApp messages as evidence of a process of diachronic and discursive variation and their integration into the category of discursive markers; (ii) to shed light on the concept of interjection for normative grammar, textbooks and linguistics; (iii) to analyze the variation processes of "nossa", "valha" and "vixe" from a diachronic and discursive point of view; and (iv) to discuss the hypothesis that the above interjections can be included in the list of discursive markers. The theoretical framework adopted consists of the theory of variation and the linguistic change (WEINREICH; LABOV; HERZOG, [1968] / 2006) and studies on discursive markers (MARCUSCHI, 2003; PENHAVEL, 2012; LOURENÇO, 2014). To this end, we conducted a qualitative-quantitative and bibliographic-documentary study in which we collected conversations on WhatsApp as a corpus. The results show that the forms in focus are indeed variants of each other and that the age group factor plays an important role in this choice. We also found that these interjections act as discursive markers to maintain the conversation among interlocutors and facilitate the cognitive process of communication. We therefore conclude that interjections, which appear only marginally in textbooks and linguistic grammar manuals, can serve various functions, e.g., as discursive markers, and constitute a fruitful field for studies on discursive variation.
