Between ruptures and permanences: an analytical and historical synthesis of racial and social prejudice in music: “sou negro”, “brincar de índio” and “fricote”

Resumo: If we look closely at the Brazilian society of the 20th century, we will find European theoretical elements defended in the 19th century. However, this observation should not surprise us since for better or worse we are products of a historical construction based on ethnocentric values of Modern Europe. The results of this cultural heritage have a negative impact on social classes with less political representation, such as the indigenous and black people. Faced with this scenario, in this article seeks to analyze the lyrics of three songs that achieved widespread dissemination in the Brazilian territory between the years 1970 and 1980, with the aim of verifying whether their spellings point to a permanence of (or ruptures with) discourses of European values in Brazil. The selected lyrics compose the songs "Sou Negro", "Brincar de Índio" and "Fricote", interpreted respectively by Tony Tornado, Xuxa and Luiz Caldas.

Porém, tal constatação não deveria nos surpreender visto que, para o bem ou para o mal, somos produtos de uma construção histórica fundamentada em valores etnocêntricos da Europa Moderna. Os resultados desta herança cultural repercutem de forma negativa em classes sociais com mínima representatividade política tais como os indígenas e os negros. Diante deste cenário, este artigo procura analisar as letras de três canções que alcançaram uma ampla divulgação no território brasileiro entre os anos de 1970 e 1980, tendo por objetivo verificar se suas grafias apontam para uma permanência de (ou rupturas com) discursos de valores europeus no Brasil.
