Theater of the Oppressed with young people in socio-educational measures: The construction of a Life Project

This article discusses the results of research that sought to investigate how the scenic-pedagogical method, Theater of the Oppressed (TO), can contribute to the construction of the life project of young people in compliance with socio-educational measures (assisted freedom) in the Centro de Referência Especializado em Assistência Social (CREAS) in a city in the interior of São Paulo. The research had a study universe: three groups of adolescents in conflict with the law who attend public schools and who are monitored by CREAS. Discussion groups were held at fortnightly intervals, in which the processes of word, image and sound (TO) were used as an instrument to approach the life project. The collected data were recorded in the field diary, organized and analyzed according to Laurence Bardin's content analysis. As a result, it was found that young people, in general, have a stigmatized identity, in which their bodies are mechanized and are subordinated to the state and institutions that violate their rights. We conclude, therefore, that a process of demechanization of their bodies and minds is necessary, so that the change of conceptions about themselves can succeed and enable the elaboration and construction of their life projects, permeated by discussions in socio-education that consider the anxieties and needs real identities of young people.
