Resumo: The floor of valleys are areas with important physical and environmental characteristics, interacting with diverse natural processes that occur in our planet. With the urbanization, degradation of such areas usually occurs, resulting in the physical, social and cultural withdrawing of the population from the urban river and stream lands. The purpose of this paper is to study the action of the public administration on valley floors and the management tools which may render feasable thee environmental preservation as well as environment and landscape renaturalization of such areas thus promoting echological and functional balance in the urban fluviatic lands. In order to prepare a proposal, several items were studied: the physical environmental characteristics of the valley floors, the transformations associated to urbanization. Based on this research, a plan was made for city of Alfenas [MG] as regards the management of the valley floor lands: a proposal of intervention in one of the hydrographic basins.

Mas, com a urbanização, é comum a sua degradação, resultando no afastamento físico, social e cultural da população em relação aos rios e córregos urbanos. Este trabalho tem como objetivo estudar a ação do poder público sobre os terrenos de fundo de vale e os instrumentos de gestão que podem viabilizar a preservação, a conservação e a renaturalização ambiental e paisagística dessas áreas, no sentido de promover, por meio delas, o equilíbrio ecológico-funcional do ambiente fluvial localizado em áreas urbanas. Inicialmente, para subsidiar a elaboração de uma proposta, foram estudadas as características físico-ambientais dos fundos de vale e as transformações associadas ao processo de urbanização.
