Este consiste no entendimento de que o autor possa ter incongruências entre suas obras, em que era tido como um conservador em um momento, e um liberal no seguinte. Observando, porém, a própria historiografia de estudo do autor, podemos constatar que o questionamento de haver algum tipo de inconsistência não é algo apenas do final do século XX, apesar de ter surgido em diferentes contextos sob diferentes condições. A pesquisa visa observar diretamente os documentos escritos por Burke, em especial suas obras pós-Revolução Francesa, mas inserindo um novo fator à equação: A "Swinish Multitude". Em sua obra mais famosa, Edmund Burke condena a revolução, apontando que o conhecimento seria jogado à lama e pisoteado por uma multidão suína. Com isso, partidários ingleses tomam o termo para si, e passam a escrever "pamphlets" em resposta ao parlamentar, assinados em nome da "Swinish Multitude", ou como um membro da multidão suína. Assim que observarmos estes panfletos, suas principais temáticas, questionamentos e reivindicações, partimos para os textos de Burke pós 1790. O autor, muito mais do que o próprio admite, absorve muito da revolução, mesmo que seja condenando-a, e isso é refletido em seus textos. O medo que expressa da expansão dos ideais franceses, principalmente na Inglaterra, deixa mais do que claro que Burke assimila as questões, e busca respondê-las à sua maneira. A pesquisa procurou demonstrar que o pensamento do parlamentar não se encerrou em suas Reflexões sobre a Revolução na França, ainda que tenha adotado uma postura de conservação, ele enxerga claramente o outro polo do debate político. Contudo, a historiografia do autor trabalhou apenas em cima de uma ideia de dualismo. Ou ele era plenamente coerente, ou plenamente incoerente. O que, prontamente, pode ser evidenciado, é que há uma diversidade de análises e interpretações. Dessa forma, a pesquisa não busca fornecer mais uma resposta para tentar resolver o "The Burke Problem", mas sim observar como a questão foi trabalhada ao longo dos séculos, e acrescentar um fator crucial à questão, os panfletos da multidão suína, entendendo que o autor os absorve e reflete isto em seus escritosAbstract: In the vast field of research on the so-called "father of conservatism", Edmund Burke, there is a question that arises in the 1970s that greatly intrigues its scholars, "The Burke Problem". This consists of the author's understanding that there may be inconsistencies between Burke's works, in which he was seen as a conservative in one moment, and a liberal in the next. Observing, however, the author's own study historiography, we can see that the question of there being some kind of inconsistency is not something only from the end of the 20th century, despite having arisen in different contexts under different conditions. The research aims to directly observe the documents written by Burke, especially his post-French Revolution works, but inserting a new factor into the equation: The Swinish Multitude. In his most famous work, Edmund Burke condemns the revolution, pointing out that knowledge would be cast into the mire and trodden down under the hoofs of a swinish multitude. With that, English supporters took the term for themselves, and began to write pamphlets in response to the parliamentarian, signed on behalf of the "Swinish Multitude", or as a member of the swinish multitude. After observing these pamphlets, their main themes, questions and claims, we proceed with Burke's texts after 1790. The author, much more than he admits, absorbs much of the revolution, even if he condemns it, and this is reflected in his texts. The fear he expresses of the expansion of French ideals, especially in England, makes it more than clear that Burke assimilates the questions, and seeks to answer them in his own way. The research sought to demonstrate that the parliamentarian's thinking did not end in his Reflections, even though he adopted a conservation posture, he clearly sees the other pole of the political debate. However, the author's historiography worked only on an idea of dualism. Either he was fully coherent, or he was completely inconsistent. What can readily be evidenced is that there is a diversity of analyzes and interpretations.
