Resumo: The growth of scientific activity and the development of new technologies for the dissemination of knowledge contributed to generate various indicators, used as evaluation tools of science. In addition, Brazil has established its own infrastructure to assess the scientific activity in the country and more specifically, the graduate courses, led by the Coordination of Superior Level Staff Improvement (CAPES), which makes use of indicators in the evaluation process of such courses, which are available for public access. In order to enhance the understanding of scientific indicators, the overall goal of this research was to develop and analyze a set of scientific indicators, based on the information visualization area. The chosen research method was a case study that contemplates nine graduate program in the economics area. The data was extracted from the CAPES evaluation system report from the 2013 triennial. The results achieved are a set of indicators on the dimensions of the Capes Evaluation System. Based on the theoretical background as well as the discussion of the obtained results, the conclusion is that it is feasible to make use of the concepts of information visualization area to enhance the understanding of the dynamism of science, in particular the performance of graduate programs, through the development of indicators based on data and information provided by the CAPES evaluation system, helping decision makers in the implementation of public policies and the management of such programs.
