Brazil’s independence through portuguese parliamentarians: a difficult recognition (1822-1823)

Resumo: When Brazil became the centre of the Portuguese empire, displaced from Europe to America, conditions were created for regime change: Portugal joined Liberalism (1820). The parliamentary work that began in 1821 and lasted until 1823 reflected the fears of a return to the past and made the ideological fragility of the Cortes visible. After Brazil's declaration of independence, relations between the two territories had a privileged discussion forum in the Cortes. The analysis of how parliamentarians discussed the new political framework that would govern Portugal-Brazil relations is the subject of this text.

Tras la declaración de independencia de Brasil, las relaciones entre ambos territorios tuvieron un foro de discusión privilegiado en las Cortes. El análisis de cómo los parlamentarios discutieron el nuevo marco político que regiría las relaciones entre Portugal y Brasil es el objeto de este texto.Quando o Brasil passou a ser o centro do império português, deslocado da Europa para a América, criaram-se condições para a mudança de regime: Portugal aderiu ao Liberalismo (1820). Os trabalhos parlamentares, iniciados em 1821 e  que se prolongaram até 1823, espelhavam os receios do regresso ao passado e tornavam visível a fragilidade ideológica das Cortes, onde as  discussões preparavam o regresso do absolutismo e aumentavam a vontade de separação aos brasileiros Após a declaração da indepndência do Brasil, as relações entre os dois territórios tiveram um fórum de discussão privilegiado nas Cortes.
