Resumo: In 2016, the project The history of public health through the photographs of Geraldo Paula Souza was carried out. The research aimed to organize the photographs that belonged to this professor. Taken during his stay in the United States, between 1918 and 1920, the photographs show the interests of Paula Souza as a public health professional. The themes portrayed include water and sewage treatment plants, housing, parks and other scenes of everyday urban life. In this way, the article proposes to understand the production of these photographs, which allow us to glimpse the photographer's initial steps, as well as the formation of the academic field of public health.

La investigación tuvo como objetivo organizar las fotografías que pertenecieron a este maestro. Tomadas durante su estancia en Estados Unidos, entre 1918 y 1920, las fotografías muestran los intereses de Paula Souza como profesional de la salud pública. Los temas retratados incluyen plantas de tratamiento de agua y alcantarillado, viviendas, parques y otras escenas de la vida urbana cotidiana. De esta forma, el artículo se propone comprender la producción de esas fotografías, que permiten vislumbrar los pasos iniciales del fotógrafo, así como la formación del campo académico de la salud pública.Em 2016 foi realizado o projeto A história da saúde pública pelas fotografias de Geraldo Paula Souza. A pesquisa tinha como objetivo organizar as fotografias que pertenceram a esse professor. Realizadas durante sua estadia nos Estados Unidos, entre 1918 e 1920, as fotografias evidenciam os interesses de Paula Souza como profissional de saúde pública. As temáticas retratadas passam por estações de tratamento de águas e esgotos, habitações, parques e outras cenas do cotidiano urbano.
