Summary: Bio-engineering advances bring to the fore new conflicts and unimaginable debates. Through new disciplines such as Bioethics and Bio-laws, Philosophy and Law provide responses to real issues. Research on embryonic cell stems is one of the most polemic issues developed by the new biological sciences. The required permission to develop research work, such as the use of human embryos, forwards the problem of the right to live and of possible disrespect to the dignity of the human person and its rights. Brazilian law on this issue, called the Bio-safety Law, was judged by the High Federal Court, which defined it as valid and constitutional. It follows the modern trend for research whilst respecting important criteria.

Frente a esa profusión de realidades responde la filosofía y el derecho con nuevas áreas de estudio – la bioética y el bioderecho. La investigación con células madre embrionarias es uno de los capítulos más polémicos ya desarrollados por las nuevas ciencias biológicas. El permiso necesario para seguir adelante con tales pesquisas, cuáles sean, el uso letal de embriones humanos impone la cuestión del derecho a la vida y la posible falta de respeto a la dignidad de la persona humana y de los derechos de personalidad. En Brasil, la legislación que trata de la cuestión (Ley de Bioseguridad) pasó por la criba del STF que la definió como válida y constitucional siguiendo la tendencia mundial de permitir tales investigaciones, desde que respetando ciertos parámetros.As modernas conquistas da Bioengenharia trazem ao cenário existencial novos conflitos e inimagináveis lides. A esta Profusão de realidades responde a Filosofia e o Direito com as novas subáreas de estudo – a Bioética e o Biodireito. A pesquisa com células-tronco embrionárias é um dos capítulos mais polêmicos da grande obra já desenvolvida pelas novas ciências biológicas. A permissão necessária para levar a frente tais pesquisas, qual seja, o uso letal de embriões humanos levanta a questão do direito à vida e o possível desrespeito à dignidade da pessoa humana e dos próprios direitos da personalidade.
