This research aimed to identify the impact of the Itaipu Royalties resources on the revenues and expenses of the municipalities bordering Lake Itaipu when this financial compensation closes in April 2023. The research problem that seeks to answer is: What impact of the royalties of Itaipu in the revenues and expenses of the municipalities of Paraná, when this financial compensation ends? The methodology is characterized as an exploratory study. As for the objectives as a bibliographical and descriptive research, as for the method as deductive using a quantitative approach. It was identified that the larger the flooded area, the greater the resource of royalties passed on to each affected municipality. According to research data, it was possible to identify that many municipalities are more dependent on the amounts passed on by Itaipu in the form of royalties. Of the 15 municipalities analyzed only Marechal Cândido Rondon, will have a higher revenue than the expense for 2024, a year after the compensation close. Since the beginning of the treaty, more than 20 years have passed, with less than ten years remaining until its revision. Therefore, it is necessary that municipalities invest in sectors that bring more financial resources. In order to reduce dependence on royalties and to leverage economic and social development.
