Resumo: Introduction: Leprosy is an infectious disease caused by the bacillus Mycobacterium leprae. It is considered a public health problem in Brazil and in other countries because of its slow evolution, high transmission rate, and physical, sociocultural, economic, and emotional/psychological repercussions. Objective: To identify the impact of social stigmas and health vulnerabilities on the lives of leprosy patients. Method: This is an integrative literature review. The data search was conducted in April 2022 by three independent authors through the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) under the Pubmed interface and the Virtual Health Library (VHL) Regional Portal, using the descriptors: leprosy OR mycobacterium leprae AND social vulnerability AND social determinants of health. Results: The results are presented by means of synoptic tables, containing title, country and year, main findings and level of evidence of the selected articles. In total, eleven articles were selected that responded to the research problem. Conclusion: Leprosy is linked to several stigmas that surround low self-esteem, fear and social exclusion, corroborating for a great interference between the relations of leprosy patients with society, since the isolation of this population was a method used for a long time.

Se considera un problema de salud pública en Brasil y en otros países por su lenta evolución, su alta tasa de transmisión y sus repercusiones físicas, socioculturales, económicas y emocionales/psicológicas. Objetivo: Identificar el impacto de los estigmas sociales y las vulnerabilidades en la salud en la vida de los portadores de lepra. Método: Se trata de una revisión bibliográfica integradora. La búsqueda de datos fue realizada en abril de 2022 por tres autores independientes a través del Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) bajo la interfaz Pubmed y el Portal Regional de la Biblioteca Virtual de Salud (BVS), utilizando los descriptores: lepra OR mycobacterium leprae AND social vulnerability AND social determinants of health. Resultados: Los resultados se presentan mediante cuadros sinópticos, que contienen el título, el país y el año, las principales conclusiones y el nivel de evidencia de los artículos seleccionados. En total, se seleccionaron once artículos que respondían al problema de investigación. Conclusión: La lepra está relacionada con diversos estigmas que giran en torno a la baja autoestima, el medio y la exclusión social, corroborando una gran interferencia entre las relaciones de los hansenianos con la sociedad, dado que el aislamiento de esta población fue un método utilizado durante mucho tiempo.Introdução: A hanseníase é uma doença infectocontagiosa causada pelo bacilo Mycobacterium leprae. É considerada  um problema de saúde pública no Brasil e em outros países, pois apresenta evolução lenta, alta taxa de transmissão e repercussões no âmbito físico, sociocultural, econômico e emocional/psicológico. Objetivo: Identificar o impacto dos estigmas sociais e das vulnerabilidades em saúde na vida dos portadores de hanseníase. Método: Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura. A busca de dados foi realizada no mês de abril de 2022 por três autores independentes por meio da Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) sob a interface do Pubmed e do Portal Regional da Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde (BVS), utilizando-se os descritores: leprosy OR mycobacterium leprae AND social vulnerability AND social determinants of health. Resultados: Os resultados são apresentados por meio de quadros sinópticos, contendo título, país e ano, principais achados e nível de evidência dos artigos selecionados. No total, foram selecionados onze artigos que respondessem ao problema de pesquisa.
