Clinical applications of orthodontic mini-implants: literature review

Resumo: Mini-implants can be used in various clinical situations in orthodontics. It is a very satisfactory anchorage treatment alternative, not requiring the direct collaboration of the patient, reducing treatment time, in addition to enabling safe mechanics. The proper installation of the mini-implant will depend on the planning of the clinical case. The objective of this work is to address in which clinical situations the mini-implant should be used, since it is capable of assisting in the treatment of several cases in orthodontics. The search strategy consisted of consulting electronic databases: PubMed, SciELO, LILACS and gray literature (Google Academic). Among the various clinical applications of the mini-implant, we can mention: retraction of anterior teeth, distalization of molars, mesialization of molars, intrusion of posterior and anterior teeth; leveling of the occlusal plane, traction of impacted teeth and correction of posterior crossbite. It is concluded that the mini-implant is an effective maneuver that allows the orthodontist to resolve several treatments.

Es una alternativa de tratamiento de anclaje muy satisfactoria, al no requerir la colaboración directa del paciente, reduciendo el tiempo de tratamiento, además de permitir una mecánica segura. La correcta instalación del miniimplante dependerá de la planificación del caso clínico. El objetivo de este trabajo es abordar en qué situaciones clínicas se debe utilizar el miniimplante, ya que es capaz de auxiliar en el tratamiento de varios casos en ortodoncia. La estrategia de búsqueda consistió en consultar bases de datos electrónicas: PubMed, SciELO, LILACS y literatura gris (Google Academic). Entre las diversas aplicaciones clínicas del miniimplante, podemos mencionar: retracción de dientes anteriores, distalización de molares, mesialización de molares, intrusión de dientes posteriores y anteriores; nivelación del plano oclusal, tracción de dientes impactados y corrección de mordida cruzada posterior. Se concluye que el miniimplante es una maniobra efectiva que permite al ortodoncista resolver varios tratamientos.Os mini-implantes podem ser usados em várias situações clínicas em ortodontia. Ele é uma alternativa de tratamento de ancoragem muito satisfatória, não precisando da colaboração direta do paciente, diminui tempo de tratamento, além de possibilitar uma mecânica segura. A adequada instalação do mini-implante vai depender de acordo com o planejamento do caso clínico. O trabalho tem como objetivo abordar em quais situações clínicas o mini-implante deve ser usado, já que o mesmo é capaz de auxiliar no tratamento de diversos casos em ortodontia. A estratégia de busca consistiu na consulta de bases de dados eletrônicos: PubMed, SciELO, LILACS e literatura cinzenta (Google Acadêmico). Dentre as diversas aplicações clínicas do mini-implante, pode-se citar: retração de dentes anteriores, distalização de molares, mesialização de molares, intrusão de dentes posteriores e anteriores; nivelamento do plano oclusal, tracionamneto de dentes retidos e correção de mordida cruzada posterior.
