Epidemiological and vaccination profile of suspected measles cases in municipalities of the northern health macro-region of Minas Gerais, Brazil

Resumo: | Objective: To evaluate the epidemiological and vaccination profile of suspected measles cases, establishing the relationship between vaccination, symptoms, and hospital admission in municipalities in the Northern health region of Minas Gerais. Methodology: The North of Minas Gerais health macro-region has 1,125,986 inhabitants and 54 municipalities. A survey was carried out on the distribution of the number of measles cases in all municipalities in the North macro-region of Minas Gerais, from 2016 to 2021, based on secondary data obtained from the Notifiable Diseases Information System. Reported cases of 140 individuals with suspected measles were analyzed. The selected variables refer to factors of a sociodemographic and clinical nature, vaccination coverage, hospitalization, confirmation of suspicion and the number of cases per year. Results: The study identified that the number of suspected measles cases in the period was 140, corresponding to 81% of the total reported febrile exanthematous diseases, against 31 notifications for rubella (19%), in the territory covered by the health macro-region. North of Minas Gerais. As for vaccination, 97 people were vaccinated and 33 were not vaccinated, and it was not possible to establish a relationship between vaccination/symptomology and vaccination/hospitalization. Final considerations: Considering that vaccination is the main effective measles control measure, when 95% coverage is reached. further studies on measles are needed, in addition to reflection by public authorities, health professionals and the population on the importance of vaccination campaigns for greater adherence, including prevention of imported cases and disease control. |

Se realizó una encuesta sobre la distribución del número de casos de sarampión en todos los municipios de la macrorregión Norte de Minas Gerais, de 2016 a 2021, a partir de datos secundarios obtenidos del Sistema de Información de Enfermedades de Declaración Obligatoria. Se analizaron los casos notificados de 140 personas con sospecha de sarampión. Las variables seleccionadas se refieren a factores de carácter sociodemográfico y clínico, cobertura vacunal, hospitalización, confirmación de sospecha y número de casos por año. Resultados: El estudio identificó que el número de casos sospechosos de sarampión en el período fue de 140, correspondientes al 81% del total de enfermedades exantemáticas febriles notificadas, contra 31 notificaciones de rubéola (19%), en el territorio de cobertura de la macrorregión sanitaria. Consideraciones finales: Considerando que la vacunación es la principal medida preventiva del sarampión, cuando se alcanza el 95% de cobertura, se necesitan más estudios sobre el sarampión, además de la reflexión de las autoridades públicas, los profesionales de la salud y la población sobre la importancia de las campañas de vacunación para una mayor adherencia, incluida la prevención de casos importados y el control de la enfermedad.Objetivo: Avaliar o perfil epidemiológico e vacinal dos casos suspeitos de sarampo estabelecendo a relação entre vacinação, sintomatologia e internação hospitalar em municípios da macrorregião de saúde Norte de Minas Gerais. Metodologia: A macrorregião de saúde Norte de Minas Gerais possui 1.125.986 habitantes e 54 municípios. Foi realizado levantamento da distribuição do número de casos de sarampo em todos os municípios da macrorregião Norte de Minas Gerais, no período de 2016 a 2021, a partir de dados secundários, obtidos do Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação. Foram analisados casos notificados de 140 indivíduos com suspeita de sarampo. As variáveis selecionadas se referem a fatores de natureza sociodemográfica, clínica, cobertura vacinal, internação hospitalar, confirmação de suspeita e de número de casos por ano. Resultados: O estudo permitiu identificar que o número de casos suspeitos de sarampo no período foi de 140, correspondendo a 81% do total de doenças exantemáticas febris notificadas, contra 31 notificações por rubéola (19%), no território de abrangência da macrorregião de saúde Norte de Minas Gerais. Quanto a vacinação, 97 pessoas foram vacinadas e 33 não foram vacinadas, e não foi possível estabelecer relação entre a vacinação/sintomatologia e vacinação/internação hospitalar.
