Resumo: | Introduction: COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the new coronavirus. The disease appeared in China in December 2019, and was classified as a Pandemic. The elderly are at the main risk group for COVID-19 infection. The main preventive measure is social isolation, so it is necessary to assess the challenges of this practice in the mental health of the elderly. The objective of this study is to investigate in the literature the challenges faced in social isolation for the mental health of the elderly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methodology: Integrative Literature Review, carried out in the databases; United States National Library of Medicine (NLM) - PubMed - and SciVerse Scopus (Elsevier), with studies from January to May 2020. Health descriptors '' Coronavirus '', '' Mental health '' and '' older adults ''. Results: 15 studies were included. Only research that addressed the challenges of social isolation in the mental health of the elderly, as well as strategies adopted by some countries to alleviate the problem that was formed in the pandemic of COVID-19. Conclusion: The importance of isolation in the prophylaxis of COVID-19 is recognized, however, it is clear that it can trigger and / or aggravate psychological disorders in the elderly. Some countries have adopted strategies to work with the elderly population in a situation of social isolation. |

La enfermedad apareció en China en diciembre de 2019 y se clasificó como una pandemia. Los ancianos son el principal grupo de riesgo para la infección por COVID-19. La principal medida preventiva es el aislamiento social, por lo que es necesario evaluar los desafíos de esta práctica en la salud mental de los ancianos. El objetivo de este estudio es investigar en la literatura los desafíos que enfrenta el aislamiento social para la salud mental de los ancianos durante la pandemia de COVID-19. Metodología: Revisión Integral de Literatura, realizada en las bases de datos; Biblioteca Nacional de Medicina de los Estados Unidos (NLM) - PubMed - y SciVerse Scopus (Elsevier), con estudios de enero a mayo de 2020. Los descriptores de salud '' Coronavirus '', '' Salud mental '' y '' adultos mayores ''. Resultados: se incluyeron 15 estudios. Solo investigaciones que abordaron los desafíos del aislamiento social en la salud mental de los ancianos, así como las estrategias adoptadas por algunos países para aliviar el problema que se formó en la pandemia de COVID-19. Conclusión: Se reconoce la importancia del aislamiento en la profilaxis de COVID-19, sin embargo, se percibe que puede desencadenar y / o agravar trastornos psicológicos en los ancianos. Algunos países han adoptado estrategias para trabajar con la población de edad avanzada en una situación de aislamiento social.Introdução: A COVID-19 é uma doença infecciosa causada pelo novo coronavírus. A doença surgiu na China em dezembro de 2019, e foi classificada como uma Pandemia. Os idosos estão no principal grupo de risco da infecção pelo COVID-19. A principal medida de prevenção é o isolamento social, assim se faz necessário avaliar quais os desafios dessa prática na saúde mental dos idosos. O objetivo desse estudo é investigar na literatura os desafios enfrentados no isolamento social para a saúde mental dos idosos durante a pandemia do COVID-19. Metodologia: Revisão Integrativa da Literatura, realizada nas bases de dados; United States National Library of Medicine (NLM) – PubMed – e SciVerse Scopus (Elsevier), com estudos de janeiro a maio de 2020. Utilizou-se os descritores de saúde ‘’Coronavírus’’, ‘’Mental health’’ e ‘’older adults’’. Resultados: Foram incluídos 15 estudos. Apenas pesquisas que abordaram os desafios do isolamento social na saúde mental dos idosos, bem como estratégias adotadas por alguns países para amenizar o problema que se formou na pandemia do COVID-19. Conclusão: Reconhece-se a importância do isolamento na profilaxia do COVID-19, no entanto, percebe-se que este pode desencadear e/ou agravar distúrbios psicológicos em idosos.
