Comparison between methods of treatment of intestinal mucositis in animal model – systematic literature review

Resumo: Introduction: mucositis is one of the most common side effects that manifest during chemotherapy treatments against severe cancers. Such treatments have prominent drug 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU). However, patients undergoing anti-cancer treatments that include 5-FU and other cytotoxic drugs in chemotherapy suffer severe side effects. Objectives: the present article aims to assess which is the most promising treatment, in an animal model, to prevent intestinal mucositis induced by 5-FU. Methodology: a digital search was carried out in the main online databases in the health field, such as: “Pubmed”, “BVS”, “ScienceDirect”, “SciELO” and MEDLINE”. The search strategy in all databases was to enter the descriptors “treatment AND intestinal mucositis AND 5-Fluorouracil”. Results: at that time, 191 articles were found. After analyzing the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 51 articles were chosen for a thorough analysis of the methodology and results. As for the analysis parameters of the articles in this review, the following will be included: the methodology used; the possible study biases; and the results obtained from histological, enzymatic, cytosine, and, above all, clinical analyzes. The working groups that used as substances were analyzed: probiotics; phytotherapy; allopathic; selenium and others. Conclusion:  it was possible to perceive more promising results in the group of probiotics, especially Bidens pilosa L. (Asteraceae).

Dichos tratamientos tienen el destacado fármaco 5-fluorouracilo (5-FU). Sin embargo, los pacientes sometidos a tratamientos contra el cáncer que incluyen 5-FU y otros fármacos citotóxicos en quimioterapia sufren efectos secundarios graves. Objetivos: evaluar cuál es actualmente el tratamiento más prometedor, en un modelo animal, para prevenir la mucositis intestinal inducida por 5-FU. Metodología: se realizó una búsqueda digital en las principales bases de datos en línea en el campo de la salud, tales como: "Pubmed", "VHL", "ScienceDirect", "SciELO" y MEDLINE ". La estrategia de búsqueda en todas las bases de datos fue ingresar los descriptores "tratamiento Y mucositis intestinal Y 5-fluorouracilo". Resultados: se encontraron 191 artículos. Después de analizar los criterios de inclusión y exclusión, se seleccionaron 51 artículos para un análisis exhaustivo de la metodología y los resultados. En cuanto a los parámetros de análisis de los artículos en esta revisión, se incluirán los siguientes: la metodología utilizada; los posibles sesgos de estudio; y los resultados obtenidos de análisis histológicos, enzimáticos, de citosina y, sobre todo, clínicos. Se analizaron los grupos de trabajo que utilizaron las sustancias: probióticos; fitoterapias; alopático; selenio y otros. Conclusión: fue posible percibir resultados más prometedores en el grupo de probióticos, con énfasis en Bidens pilosa L. (Asteraceae).Introdução: a mucosite é um dos efeitos colaterais mais comuns que se manifestam durante os tratamentos quimioterápicos contra cânceres severos. Tais tratamentos têm como fármaco de destaque o 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU). Contudo, pacientes submetidos a tratamentos anticâncer que incluem 5-FU e outras drogas citotóxicas na quimioterapia sofrem com os severos efeitos colaterais.  Objetivos: avaliar qual é, atualmente, o tratamento mais promissor, em modelo animal, para prevenir a mucosite intestinal induzida pelo 5-FU. Metodologia: uma pesquisa digital foi realizada nas principais bases de dados online da área da saúde, tais como: “Pubmed”, “BVS”, “ScienceDirect”, “SciELO” e MEDLINE”. A estratégia de busca em todas as bases de dados foi digitar os descritores “treatment AND intestinal mucositis AND 5-Fluorouracil”. Resultados:  encontrou-se 191 artigos. Após a análise dos critérios de inclusão e exclusão, 51 artigos foram escolhidos para análise minuciosa da metodologia e resultados. Quanto aos parâmetros de análise dos artigos desta revisão, constarão: a metodologia empregada; os possíveis vieses de estudo; e os resultados obtidos das análises histológicas, enzimática, de citosinas e, sobretudo, clínicas. Foram analisados os grupos trabalhos que utilizaram as substâncias: probióticos; fitoterápicos; alopáticos; selênio e outras. Conclusão: foi possível perceber resultados mais promissores no grupo dos probióticos, com destaque para o Bidens pilosa L.
