Production of green liquid soap: an initiative to articulate the principles of Green Chemistry in Natural Sciences teaching

Resumo: Considering the importance of activities that integrate soap production, residual grease and the relations with environmental issues and scientific concepts of Chemistry and Biology, a “green” protocol for ecological liquid soap production is presented, which allows exploring the 12 principles of Green Chemistry as a way of enabling its integration in the teaching and learning process of Natural Sciences. In this sense, it is recommended to consider important requirements to think about theoretical-practical activities in this perspective: to highlight the physical, environmental and health risks of the reagents and products involved in the manufacture of soaps and to determine the residual fat saponification index to avoid excess of caustic soda. Still, the evaluation of the chemical greenness of the procedure is guided according to Green Chemistry holistic metrics and the mass metrics. Finally, a proposal for articulation of Green Chemistry in Basic Education is presented, which can be developed through the three pedagogical moments methodology. In general, the practical actions presented in this article reinforce the importance of critical thinking around the theme Green Chemistry and sustainability articulated to the Teaching of Natural Sciences.

En este sentido, se recomienda considerar requisitos importantes para pensar las actividades teórico-prácticas en esta perspectiva: resaltar los riesgos físicos, ambientales y para la salud de los reactivos y productos involucrados en la fabricación de jabones y determinar el índice de saponificación de grasas residuales. para evitar el exceso de sosa cáustica. Aun así, la evaluación del verdor químico del procedimiento se guía de acuerdo con las métricas holísticas de Química Verde y las métricas de masa. Finalmente, se presenta una propuesta de articulación de la Química Verde en la Educación Básica, que puede ser desarrollada a través de la metodología de los tres momentos pedagógicos. En general, las acciones prácticas presentadas en este artículo refuerzan la importancia del pensamiento crítico en torno al tema Química Verde y sustentabilidad articuladas a la Enseñanza de las Ciencias Naturales.Considerando a importância das atividades que integram a produção de sabão com matéria graxa residual, as relações com o meio ambiente e conceitos científicos de Química e Biologia, apresenta-se um protocolo “verde” para a produção de sabão líquido ecológico, que permite explorar os 12 princípios da Química Verde como forma de possibilitar sua integração no processo de ensino e aprendizagem de Ciências da Natureza. Neste sentido, é indicado a consideração de requisitos importantes para pensar  atividades teórico-práticas nessa perspectiva: evidenciar os riscos físicos, ambientais e a saúde dos reagentes e produtos envolvidos na fabricação de sabões e determinar o índice de saponificação da gordura residual para evitar excesso de soda cáustica. Ainda, orienta-se a avaliação da verdura química do procedimento segundo as métricas holísticas e as métricas de massa da Química Verde. Por fim, apresenta-se uma proposta de articulação da Química Verde na Educação Básica, que podem ser desenvolvidos por meio dos três momentos pedagógicos.
