Resumo: Anxiety disorder is one of the most prevalent neuropsychiatric conditions with about 264 million people worldwide living with this disorder. It is triggered when an individual faced with a given situation or event is unable to respond to the demands and feels a threat to their existence or essential values. This disorder has a multifactorial nature in its etiology, emphasizing mainly genetic, environmental and neurobiological factors. The main medication agents most used are benzodiazepines and non-benzodiazepines, however the use and recommendation of these agents is limited. This study is classified in a qualitative narrative review. In addition, the drug treatment of symptoms completely remains unknown. Thus, this review aims to discuss the main physiological bases of this disorder, as well as the treatment and its effects.

Research, Society and Development2020-09-08info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/778010.33448/rsd-v9i9.7780Research, Society and Development; Vol. 9 No. 9; e808997780Research, Society and Development; Vol. 9 Núm. 9; e808997780Research, Society and Development; v. 9 n. 9; e8089977802525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/7780/7077Copyright (c) 2020 Carla Laíne Silva Lima; Sandra Machado Lira; Marcelo Oliveira Holanda; José Ytalo Gomes da Silva; Vinícius Bandeira Moura; Jennifer de Sousa Melo Oliveira; Beatriz Farias Serra; Amanda Gomes Queiroz Freitas; Nicolas Maurício Girão; Maria Izabel Florindo Guedeshttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess Lima, Carla Laíne SilvaLira, Sandra MachadoHolanda, Marcelo OliveiraSilva, José Ytalo Gomes daMoura, Vinícius BandeiraOliveira, Jennifer de Sousa MeloSerra, Beatriz FariasFreitas, Amanda Gomes Queiroz Girão, Nicolas MaurícioGuedes, Maria Izabel Florindo2020-09-18T01:42:11Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/7780Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:30:24.280117Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
