Resumo:  Diabetes Mellitus (DM) can be defined as a disorder of multiple etiologies resulting from defects and ineffectiveness of insulin secreted by the pancreas causing insulin resistance. Non-drug treatment includes some strategies, such as: lifestyle change and eating habits. This study aimed to highlight through a literature review the benefits of diet therapy for patients with diabetes mellitus. This is an integrative literature review, for its construction we used the following databases: Scielo, VHL and Google academic. The study was able to show that the proper and balanced dietary treatment, with fiber-rich legume consumption, allows further improvements in glycemic control, insulin resistance, lipid profile, among others. It was also observed that individuals with healthy eating habits had a lower risk of diabetes mellitus-associated diseases when compared to patients with unhealthy eating practices.

Research, Society and Development2020-01-01info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/172810.33448/rsd-v9i1.1728Research, Society and Development; Vol. 9 No. 1; e114911728Research, Society and Development; Vol. 9 Núm. 1; e114911728Research, Society and Development; v. 9 n. 1; e1149117282525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/1728/1506Brito, Andrea Nunes Mendes deMacedo, Joyce LopesCarvalho, Stefani de LimaOliveira, João Victor Farias deBrito, Francisca Nayane MedeirosPinheiro, Andreia OliveiraCosta, Patrícia Valéria de CarvalhoSilva, Daisy Jacqueline Sousainfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2020-08-19T03:04:08Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/1728Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:26:38.840226Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
