Resumo: Introduction: The term hydrocephalus comes from the Greek and means “water in the head”. It is characterized by an increase in the amount and pressure of cerebrospinal fluid or cerebrospinal fluid, leading to dilatation of the ventricles and compression of nervous tissue. Hydrocephalus is not a specific disease. Rather, it represents a diverse group of disorders, which result from impaired circulation and absorption of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) or, in rare circumstances, increased production by a choroid plexus papilloma. Objective: to review clinical and evolutionary aspects of the classification and treatment for pediatric hydrocephalus syndrome, its clinical presentations and procedures that provide a better resolution of this neurosurgical emergency. Method: a computerized bibliographic search was carried out, using the keywords (Endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV); ventriculoperitoneal shunt for hydrocephalus (VP ​​shunt); Treatment and Diagnosis.), in the following databases (SciELO, Google Scholar, Brazilian Journal of Neurosurgery, Arquivos Ciência Saúde, American Journal of Neurosurgery and Publab). Conclusion: there are few references in the Brazilian literature that address the topic on clinical and evolutionary aspects of classification and treatment for pediatric hydrocephalus syndrome. Thus, it is important to encourage research on the subject, enabling the strengthening and expansion of their professional practice in this area, as critical training and the development of skills to assist children with neurological disorders are fundamental.

Se caracteriza por un aumento en la cantidad y presión del líquido cefalorraquídeo o líquido cefalorraquídeo, lo que lleva a la dilatación de los ventrículos y la compresión del tejido nervioso. La hidrocefalia no es una enfermedad específica. Más bien, representa un grupo diverso de trastornos, que resultan de la alteración de la circulación y la absorción del líquido cefalorraquídeo (LCR) o, en raras circunstancias, del aumento de la producción por un papiloma del plexo coroideo. Objetivo: revisar aspectos clínicos y evolutivos de la clasificación y tratamiento del síndrome de hidrocefalia pediátrica, sus presentaciones clínicas y procedimientos que permitan una mejor resolución de esta emergencia neuroquirúrgica. Método: se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica computarizada, utilizando las palabras clave (Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy (ETV); ventriculoperitoneal shunt for hydrocephalus (VP ​​​​shunt); Treatment and Diagnosis.), en las siguientes bases de datos (SciELO, Google académico, Brazilian Journal de Neurocirugía, Arquivos Ciência Saúde, American Journal of Neurosurgery y Publab). Conclusión: hay pocas referencias en la literatura brasileña que aborden el tema de los aspectos clínicos y evolutivos de la clasificación y el tratamiento del síndrome de hidrocefalia pediátrica. Por lo tanto, es importante incentivar la investigación sobre el tema, posibilitando el fortalecimiento y ampliación de su práctica profesional en esta área, siendo fundamental la formación crítica y el desarrollo de habilidades para asistir a niños con trastornos neurológicos.Introdução: O termo hidrocefalia vem do grego e significa “água na cabeça”. É caracterizado por um aumento da quantidade e da pressão do líquor ou líquido cefalorraquidiano, levando a uma dilatação dos ventrículos e à compressão do tecido nervoso. A hidrocefalia não é uma doença específica. Antes representa um grupo diverso de distúrbios, os quais resultam do comprometimento da circulação e absorção do (LCR) líquido cefalorraquidiano ou, em circunstâncias raras, produção aumentada por um papiloma do plexo coroide. Objetivo: revisar aspectos clínicos e evolutivos da classificação e do tratamento para a síndrome hidrocefalia pediátrica, suas apresentações clínicas e condutas que proporcionem uma melhor resolução do quadro dessa emergência neurocirúrgica. Método: foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica computadorizada, utilizando as palavras-chave/Key-words (Terceiro ventriculostomia endoscópica (ETV); derivação ventrículo-peritoneal para hidrocefalia (derivação VP); Tratamento e Diagnóstico.), nas seguintes bases de dados (SciELO, Google acadêmico, Revista Brasileira de Neurocirurgia, Arquivos Ciência Saúde, Jornal americano de neurocirurgia e Publab). Conclusão: são escassas na literatura brasileira referências que abordam o tema sobre aspectos clínicos e evolutivos da classificação e do tratamento para a síndrome hidrocefalia pediátrica.
