Resumo: Objective: understand the experience of maternal singing in the mother-baby relationship in the context of child development. Method: qualitative research conducted through semi-structured interview with 15 women mothers captured in a pediatric outpatient clinic of a university hospital in the city of Rio de Janeiro, conducted in the first semester of 2019.  Results: from the thematic-categorical analysis, two categories emerged: Maternal feelings and attitudes in the relationship with the baby child and Maternal singing in the context of baby care. Conclusion: singing for the child is involved in psycho-affective aspects, but also in the family and social aspects of the mother woman to take care of the child, in situations of playing, sleeping or comforting. It is an important communication tool in the mother-baby relationship that needs to be valued by health professionals in the context of child development.

Método: investigación cualitativa realizada a través de entrevista semiestructurada con 15 mujeres madres capturadas en un ambulatorio pediátrico de un hospital universitario de la ciudad de Rio de Janeiro, realizada en el primer semestre de 2019. Resultados: del análisis temático-categórico surgieron dos categorías: Sentimientos y actitudes maternas en la relación con el bebé y El canto materno en el contexto del cuidado del bebé. Conclusión: la acción de cantar para el niño está involucrada en aspectos psicoafectivos, pero también en aspectos familiares y sociales de la madre mujer para cuidar al niño, en situaciones de jugar, hacerlo dormir o consolarlo. Es una importante herramienta de comunicación en la relación madre-bebé que debe ser valorada por los profesionales de la salud en el contexto del desarrollo infantil.Objetivo: compreender a experiência do canto materno na relação mãe-bebê no contexto do desenvolvimento infantil. Método: pesquisa qualitativa realizada mediante entrevista semiestruturada com 15 mulheres mães captadas em ambulatório de pediatria de hospital universitário na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, realizada no primeiro semestre de 2019.  Resultados: da análise temático-categorial emergiram duas categorias: Sentimentos e atitudes maternas na relação com o filho bebê e O canto materno no contexto do cuidado do filho bebê. Conclusão: a ação de cantar para o filho está envolta em aspectos psicoafetivos, mas também em aspectos familiares e sociais da mulher mãe para cuidar do filho, em situações de brincar, fazer dormir ou confortar.
