Eating behavior and strategies for teaching nutritional education for autistic children: Sistematic review

Summary: | The goal of this study is to evaluate eating behavior and strategies for Food and Nutrition Education strategies (FNE) for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The systematic review was developed in the following steps: elaboration of the scientific question, the search for evidence, review and selection of studies, methodological evaluation and presentation of results. In the search for data, 102 articles were pre-selected. In the sequence, those that didn't match the inclusion criteria were excluded, 19 articles were fully analyzed, which shows that FNE is fundamental to improve autistic children's eating behavior. FNE actions, with involvement of parents, caregivers and educators, in order to promote the adoption of healthy eating pattern, have proven to be more effective, once the involvement of all the people that are part of the person with ASD is essential for the success of nutritional interventions. The use of sensory familiarization methods for food, games and digital resources are approaches that are capable of causing changes in autistic children's eating behavior. The traditional methodologies of FNE, like culinary workshops and lectures, are less effective, if compared to dynamic and interactive intervention practices. |

La revisión sistemática se desarrolló en las siguientes etapas: elaboración de la pregunta científica, búsqueda de evidencia, revisión y selección de estudios, evaluación metodológica y presentación de resultados. En la búsqueda de datos se preseleccionaron 102 artículos. Posteriormente, se eliminaron aquellos que no cumplían con los criterios de inclusión y se analizaron 19 artículos en su totalidad, lo que mostró que la EAN es fundamental para mejorar la conducta alimentaria de los niños autistas. Las acciones de la EAN, con el involucramiento de padres, cuidadores y educadores, con el fin de promover la adopción de un patrón de alimentación saludable, demostraron ser más efectivas, ya que es fundamental el involucramiento de todas las personas que forman parte de la rutina de la persona con TEA Esencial para el éxito de las intervenciones nutricionales. El uso de métodos de familiarización sensorial de alimentos, juegos y recursos digitales son enfoques capaces de proporcionar cambios en el comportamiento alimentario de los niños autistas. Las metodologías tradicionales de EAN, como los talleres de cocina y las conferencias, tienen un efecto menor en comparación con las prácticas de intervención dinámicas e interactivas.O objetivo desse estudo é avaliar o comportamento alimentar e estratégias de Educação Alimentar e Nutricional (EAN) para crianças com Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA). A revisão sistemática foi desenvolvida nas seguintes etapas: elaboração da pergunta científica, busca de evidências, revisão e seleção dos estudos, avaliação metodológica e apresentação dos resultados. Na busca dos dados, foram pré-selecionados 102 artigos. Na sequência, foram removidos aqueles que não se enquadravam nos critérios de inclusão, sendo analisados 19 artigos na íntegra, os quais mostraram que a EAN é fundamental para a melhora do comportamento alimentar de crianças autistas. Ações de EAN, com o envolvimento de pais, cuidadores e educadores, a fim de se promover a adoção de padrão alimentar saudável, comprovaram ser mais efetivas, uma vez que o envolvimento de todas as pessoas que fazem parte da rotina da pessoa com TEA é imprescindível para o sucesso das intervenções nutricionais. O uso de métodos de familiarização sensorial dos alimentos, jogos e recursos digitais são abordagens capazes de proporcionar mudanças no comportamento alimentar de crianças autistas.
