Biochemical parameters of Nile tilapia exposed to thiamethoxam

Resumo: Thiamethoxam is an insecticide in the class of neonicotinoids and although it has been on the market for more than 20 years, there are still few studies regarding its toxicity to fish. The objective of this work was to evaluate the toxicity of a thiamethoxam-based insecticide to Nile tilapia exposed to a sublethal concentration by means of serum biochemical analysis. A total of 96 tilapia juveniles were used, exposed to 32mgL for 24, 48, 168, and 360 hours. In the biochemical analysis, a decrease in the total protein with elevated triglyceride levels of the exposed group was observed in relation to the control. The other parameters did not present differences between the exposed and control fish. Sublethal concentrations of thiamethoxam are capable of causing toxicity alterations in Nile tilapia, since the dynamics of some biochemical parameters are influenced by the action of this insecticide.

El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar la toxicidad de un insecticida a base de tiametoxam mediante análisis bioquímica de suero de tilapia del Nilo expuesto a concentraciones subletales. Se utilizaron un total de 96 tilapias juveniles, expuestas a 32mgL de tiametoxam durante 24, 48, 168 y 360 horas. En el análisis bioquímica, se observó una disminución en las proteínas totales con un aumento en los niveles de triglicéridos en el grupo expuesto en comparación con el grupo control. Los otros parámetros no mostraron diferencias entre el grupo expuesto y el grupo de control. Las concentraciones subletales de Tiametoxam son capaces de provocar cambios por toxicidad en la tilapia del Nilo, considerando que la dinámica de algunos parámetros bioquímicos está influenciada por la acción de este insecticida.Tiametoxam é um inseticida da classe dos neonicotinóides e, apesar de estar no mercado por mais de 20 anos, ainda há poucos estudos relativos à sua toxicidade em peixes. O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar a toxicidade de um inseticida baseado em tiametoxam através de análise bioquímica do soro de tilápias do Nilo expostas a concentrações subletais. Um total de 96 tilápias juvenis foram utilizadas, expostos a 32mgL de tiametoxam por 24, 48, 168, e 360 horas. Na análise bioquímica, uma queda no total de proteínas com elevação dos níveis de triglicérides foi observada no grupo exposto em comparação ao grupo de controle. Os outros parâmetros não apresentaram diferença entre o grupo exposto e o grupo de controle.
