Resumo: The reduction of consumption of animal products is a practice that has been showing an increasing number of adherents. The plant-based food pattern has nutritional properties capable of presenting health benefits. This practice favors the search for a more sustainable food system in the context of advances in globalization, industrialization, population growth and environmental impact. Considering the relevance of stimulating sustainable production and consumption, this study aimed to investigate the facilitators and limitations related to the reduction in meat consumption in the population of the Niterói city, metropolitan region of the State of Rio de Janeiro - Brazil. Data was collected by an online survey, and then disseminated through social media. Environmental issues and health benefits proved to be facilitators for reducing meat consumption.While the taste for meat is a barrier that limits its consumption reduction. Social interaction has no limiting factor, as a meat substitute. Finally, the intention to reduce meat consumption demonstrated a balance between disagreement and agreement, but there may be a chance that consumers will adhere to this dietary pattern in the future.

El patrón alimentario de origen vegetal posee propiedades nutricionales capaces de presentar beneficios para la salud. Esta práctica favorece la búsqueda de un sistema alimentario más sostenible en el contexto de los avances de la globalización, la industrialización, el crecimiento demográfico y el impacto ambiental. Considerando la importancia de estimular la producción y el consumo sostenibles, este estudio tuvo como objetivo investigar los facilitadores y las limitaciones relacionadas con la reducción del consumo de carne en la población de la ciudad de Niterói, región metropolitana del Estado de Río de Janeiro - Brasil. La recolección de datos se realizó a través de un cuestionario en línea, que se difundió a través de las redes sociales. Se ha demostrado que los problemas ambientales y los beneficios para la salud facilitan la reducción del consumo de carne. Mientras que el gusto por la carne se presentó como una barrera que limita la reducción de su consumo. La interacción social no se presentó como un factor limitante, al igual que los sustitutos de la carne. Finalmente, la intención de reducir el consumo de carne mostró un equilibrio entre el desacuerdo y el acuerdo, pero existe la posibilidad de que los consumidores se adhieran a este patrón dietético en el futuro.A redução do consumo de produtos de origem animal é uma prática que vem apresentando um número cada vez maior de adeptos. O padrão alimentar à base de vegetais tem propriedades nutricionais capazes de apresentar benefícios à saúde. Essa prática favorece a busca por um sistema alimentar mais sustentável sob o contexto dos avanços da globalização, da industrialização, do aumento populacional e do impacto ambiental. Considerando a relevância de estímulo a uma produção e consumo sustentáveis, este estudo teve o objetivo de investigar os facilitadores e limitações relacionados à redução do consumo de carne na população da cidade de Niterói, região metropolitana do Estado do Rio de Janeiro - Brasil. A coleta de dados foi realizada por meio de um questionário online, sendo divulgado por meio de mídias sociais. As questões ambientais e os benefícios para a saúde demonstraram ser facilitadores para redução do consumo de carne. Enquanto o gosto pela carne se apresentou como uma barreira que limita a redução do seu consumo. O convívio social não se apresentou como um limitador, assim como substitutos da carne.
