Resumo: The present article seeks to rescue the economic history of sisal from a technological point of view. The article aims to analyze the evolutionary process of technology in the sisal economy of Northeastern Brazil in order to describe the changes in the different defibration machines used in the defibration of sisal fiber. For the execution, the exploratory-descriptive and historical institutional research method was adopted, with a qualitative character, seeking to investigate, describe, and interpret the phenomena that occurred in the past. The results suggest that the evolutionary process of technology in sisal culture has not reached all regions of the Northeast, resists the unfolding of local realities and promotes a source of income for many rural workers.

El artículo tiene como objetivo analizar el proceso evolutivo de la tecnología en la economía del sisal del Nordeste brasileño para describir los cambios en las diferentes trituradoras utilizadas en la trituración de fibra de sisal. Para su ejecución se adoptó el método de investigación histórico exploratorio-descriptivo e institucional, de carácter cualitativo, buscando indagar, describir e interpretar los fenómenos ocurridos en el pasado. Los resultados sugieren que el proceso evolutivo de la tecnología en el cultivo del sisal no ha llegado a todas las regiones del Nordeste, resiste el desdoblamiento de las realidades locales y promueve una fuente de ingresos para muchos trabajadores rurales.O presente artigo busca resgatar a história econômica sisaleira a partir de uma visão tecnológica. O artigo tem como objetivo analisar o processo evolutivo da tecnologia na economia sisaleira do Nordeste brasileiro com intuito de descrever as mudanças nas diferentes máquinas desfibradoras empregadas no desfibramento da fibra de sisal. Para execução, foi adotado o método de pesquisa exploratória-descritiva e histórica institucional, de caráter qualitativo, buscando investigar, descrever e interpretar os fenômenos ocorridos no passado.
